LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Maxey nominated for NBA Player of the Week

Ball and Maxey were the first two rookies this season to be nominated for the NBA Player of the Week award.

On Monday, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum were named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively.

Doncic led the Mavericks to a 3-0 record on the week after averaging 30.3 points, 12 rebounds and 11.3 assists. Meanwhile, Tatum posted 33 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as the Celtics also enjoyed a perfect 3-0 record during the week.

While Doncic and Tatum took home the honors, a couple of rookie players were nominated for the first time this season as Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey were among the players in consideration for the award.

Ball averaged 14.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.5 assists in four games last week. Of course, he became the youngest player ever to record a triple-double when he produced 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists on Saturday in a win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Maxey led all rookies in scoring during the week, averaging 17 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and one steal in four games with the Sixers. He recorded a career-high 39 points on Saturday to become the first Sixers rookie to reach that mark in a game since Allen Iverson.
