The holidays may be over but LaMelo Ball is still in the giving spirit.
The 18-year-old will donate one month of his NBL salary to help Australian wildfires, his agent, Jermaine Jackson, told Corey Williams of ESPN Australia & New Zealand.
The Australian state of New South Wales has declared a week-long state of emergency as crews battle several wildfires. A total of 17 people have died across the country with 1,400 homes damaged from the fires, according to CNN.
Ball joined the Illawarra Hawks over the summer ahead of the 2019-20 season as he prepares for the 2020 NBA Draft. Most believe Ball can become the No. 1 pick ahead of the likes of Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and others.
Players in the NBL earn approximately $100,000 per season.
Ball has appeared in 12 games with the Illawarra Hawks this season, averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds and seven assists. He has not played since Nov. 30 after suffering a foot injury but is expected to return to the court soon.
While Ball will play in the NBL for just one season, his generosity to help those affected by the deadly wildfires is certainly admirable and an action many will never forget.
