LaMelo Ball rises to Knicks at No. 2 in The Athletic’s 2020 NBA Draft

In The Athletic’s latest mock draft, LaMelo Ball rose up to No. 2 overall to the Knicks with some interesting reasoning.

With the NBA season put on hold, many have turned their attention to the upcoming NBA Draft, Steve Kerr amongst those. This has led to more mock drafts and updated versions being released, including from The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie.

In his latest mock draft released on Thursday, Vecenie had Ball going No. 2 overall to the New York Knicks, which is as high as he’s ever had the youngest Ball brother in a mock draft. The caveat he included for part of his reasoning in the rise to the second spot is also very interesting.

“I also wouldn’t ignore the CAA connection here. Ball is repped by CAA, which has long had an influence on the Knicks. Now, former CAA player agent Leon Rose is in charge as the president of basketball operations.”

It’s a potential connection that we made about a month ago and appears to be one that could be gaining steam. With so much uncertainty and so many questions surrounding Ball, few will likely know him or be able to find out information about him like Leon Rose.

The Knicks are a destination that could also appeal to the Ball family as well. LaVar Ball has stated multiple times that New York is his preferred landing spot for Ball. His most adventurous take on the matter was one in which he said his ideal scenario would be all three sons landing in New York coached by Mark Jackson.

That scenario is obviously a long way from ever potentially happening but LaMelo landing in New York is not nearly as much of a longshot.
