Projected first-round pick LaMelo Ball on Monday said that he has interviewed with the New York Knicks ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft on Nov. 18.
Of course, the Knicks hold the eighth overall pick in the NBA Draft but Ball is widely projected to be off of the board by then. The Knicks would likely need to trade up in order to have an opportunity to select Ball but speaking with him doesn’t necessarily indicate an interest in him.
Prospects participating in the NBA Draft Combine started the process on Monday and began speaking with the media. Several prospects, including Ball, spoke while others are scheduled to hold media sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday virtually via Zoom.
Ball told reporters that he doesn’t know if the Knicks have expressed interest in trading up though the 19-year-old kept things rather close to the vest during his availability and didn’t specify which other teams he has talked to, according to Alex Kennedy of BasketballNews.com.
LaMelo Ball was asked if the New York Knicks have expressed interest in trading up to get him: "That, I don't know. Maybe, maybe not."

Ball, due to his unique size blending with insane playmaking and court vision, arguably has the most potential of all players in the 2020 NBA Draft and is widely considered to be a top-five pick. He is even in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall selection given his upside.
