Lamar Jackson’s ‘Madden NFL 21’ cover pokes fun at the ‘he’s just a runner’ debate

The cover actually includes a quote from Jackson in which he poked fun at the criticism that he was just a runner.

Lamar Jackson is your cover athlete for the next iteration of the ‘Madden’ video game franchise, Madden NFL 21.

This is actually old news, as the Ravens accidentally leaked the fact that Jackson would be on the cover awhile back. But now we have the cover, as well as a trailer for the game. As to how Jackson will be affected by the supposed “Madden curse” — we’ll have to wait and see.

What’s perhaps most interesting about the cover isn’t the photo (though it’s cool) or the graphic design (which is also pretty gritty and cool), but the words that are on it.

It’s wild to see the game seeming to take sides in the Lamar Jackson debate, placing the words “not bad for a running back” next to Jackson’s picture. It’s a quote from Jackson himself, with him poking fun at the idiotic debate that Jackson is just a runner, which he nicely disproved last year in his MVP season.

And here’s a trailer for the game showing off gameplay:
