Lamar Jackson details what it would take for him to switch his jersey number

The Baltimore Ravens have had some phenomenal players walk in and out of their doors. From Ray Lewis to Ed Reed to Jonathan Ogden and more, greats have graced the field at M&T Bank Stadium and made an impact in the community in many amazing ways.

When quarterback Lamar Jackson walked into Baltimore during April of 2018, he envisioned doing big things in a Ravens uniform. When he ends up walking out of the city, he seemingly has big things planned. He told “The Lounge Podcast” that if the Ravens win a Super Bowl during his time with the team, he’ll switch his jersey number and hope that one day he’ll have two numbers retired in his honor that will be associated with his achievements and legacy.

Many have speculated whether Jackson would ever switch from his No. 8 jersey. The number means a lot to him, but back in April when he was asked what number he would change to, he made it known that it would be to No. 1, lining up with what he told Garrett Downing and Ryan Mink of Baltimoreravens.com on The Lounge.

There haven’t been many players who’ve been able to pull off having two different numbers retired by the same team. One example of a person who accomplished the feat is basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who had both No. 8 and No. 24 retired by the Los Angeles Lakers in honor of his many accolades and achievements.

Jackson certainly has the talent to have two jersey numbers set aside in his name. He’s already risen to stardom at the age of 24, and has many more years of great football ahead of him. However, as the quarterback said, he wants to win a Super Bowl before he ditches No. 8 for No. 1. Jackson is hungry to win a championship in Baltimore, and if he does, he’ll certainly be No. 1 in the hearts of many all around the city while also being No. 1 on the field.
