Lakers will waive Dylan Windler to sign Harry Giles III

Former first-round draft pick Dylan Windler will be waived by the Lakers so they can officially sign big man Harry Giles III.

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to suffer from a string of injuries to key players. Guard Gabe Vincent, forward Jarred Vanderbilt and big men Christian Wood and Colin Castleton are out with various ailments.

It has left the team thin at the forward and center positions. Vincent and Vanderbilt are arguably the Lakers’ two best perimeter defenders, while Wood is second on the team in rebounds per 36 minutes.

This week, forward Cam Reddish, who had been out for about a month with a sprained ankle, made his return, which helped L.A.’s depth. Perhaps as a result, it will waive Dylan Windler to make room for big man Harry Giles III, whom it is signing to a two-way contract.

Windler joined the Lakers on a two-way contract in early January. He appeared in eight games for them, playing a total of 28 minutes and making 4-of-8 shots from 3-point range.
