Lakers’ Trevor Ariza gives update on injury rehab

Los Angeles Lakers forward Trevor Ariza gave an update on how he feels after having ankle surgery earlier in the year.

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t been able to see what Trevor Ariza looks like on the court this season.

After signing the veteran forward on a one-year deal over the summer, Ariza injured his ankle and underwent surgery that sidelined him for at least eight weeks.

Ariza explained Monday how he’s progressing as he slowly returns to action.

“I’ve been as of late just starting to run on my own, on my own body weight,” Ariza said. “Been on the court shooting, going through movements that I will probably have to get used to doing again. Conditioning, sprinting, lifting, shooting, a whole lot of that.”

Ariza added how he doesn’t have a definite date to return just yet. It will all depend on how doctors evaluate his progress and how his body responds to more strenuous on-court work.

The 36-year-old forward still needs to clear the eight-week timeline given to him when he had surgery, which is about a week away.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said during his media session Monday Ariza is “still a ways away” from returning, which he’s said often when discussing injuries to Ariza and Kendrick Nunn, who also doesn’t have a set return date from a knee injury.
