Lakers to hold Chick Hearn Night on Monday vs. Pacers

On Monday, the Lakers will honor the memory of arguably the greatest play-by-play announcer in basketball history.

On Monday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Indiana Pacers, but that will not be the only thing of note taking place at Crypto.com Arena.

The team will also hold Chick Hearn Night in memory of its late legendary play-by-play announcer.

Hearn first got behind the microphone for a Lakers playoff game in 1961, and he quickly became a fixture of the team and its fan base. He continued to call games for L.A. until his death in 2002, and his colorful, staccato delivery and numerous catchphrases became the stuff of legend.

Hearn called an incredible 3,338 consecutive games, a streak that spanned his five decades behind the microphone for the team.

The Lakers will use this tribute to Hearn as an opportunity to award two students at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism with scholarships. In addition, every fan in attendance will receive a nifty key chain.

Lakers fans who grew up listening to Hearn will never forget his unmistakable voice and personality, as well as the memorable moments in team history he called.
