The Los Angeles Lakers are officially set to play the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the NBA playoffs. With the series starting on Tuesday with Game 1, let’s take a look back at what happened in the regular season between these two teams.
December 6: Lakers win 136-113
The first meeting between these two teams wasn’t close after the Portland Trail Blazers were deflated by losing a key player early in the game. Rodney Hood tore his Achilles in the first half of the game.
Anthony Davis was incredible in the win, scoring 39 points and LeBron James also had 31 points.
December 28: Lakers win 128-120
LeBron James and the Lakers were riding a season-worst 4-game losing streak into this game, including a close loss to the Clippers on Christmas. Portland played much better in this game and even though Anthony Davis didn’t have as great of a game, the Lakers got a boost off the bench with 24 points from Kyle Kuzma.
January 31: Blazers win 127-119
In the first game that the Lakers played after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, Damian Lillard played with a Mamba Mentality. Lillard had 48 points and 10 assists. He also got a major hand from Hassan Whiteside, who had 30 points and 13 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony did not play in this game for personal reasons related to Bryant’s passing. Anthony Davis had 37 points and 16 rebounds.
