Lakers player grades: L.A. loses nail biter in overtime to Mavericks

In an ugly, grind-it-out fest, the Lakers fought hard but couldn’t get enough breaks in their favor, as they fell to the Mavericks.

After they had their five-game winning streak snapped on Monday by the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers tried to start a new streak on Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks.

For much of the night, it seemed there was a lid on the basket for L.A. After falling behind early by double digits, it fought back and made the game very competitive in the fourth quarter by taking advantage of 16 Dallas turnovers.

In the end, the Mavs made more plays in a grind-it-out double overtime contest, pulling out the 119-115 victory.

The Lakers shot a paltry 39.3% overall, 24.4% from 3-point range and 63% from the free-throw line while allowing Luka Doncic to go off for 35 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists. Ultimately, they only have themselves to blame for this setback.
