Lakers officially announce Duke basketball legend JJ Redick as head coach

The Lakers finally unveiled Duke basketball legend JJ Redick as their head coach on Monday afternoon.

In every sense of the word, [autotag]JJ Redick[/autotag] is now the Los Angeles Lakers head coach.

Days after the first reports that the Duke basketball legend would take over the franchise, the team officially announced Redick and hosted a press conference to welcome him as the team leader.

Redick, the school’s all-time leading scorer, spent four years with the Blue Devils and 15 years in the NBA before transitioning into a media career as an ESPN analyst. He also launched a podcast called ‘Mind the Game’ with LeBron James, the Lakers star who helped the franchise win a championship in 2020.

The longtime NBA veteran still holds Duke records for career 3-pointers attempted and made, career free-throw percentage, and single-season scoring average. His 2005-06 senior campaign when he averaged 26.8 points per game remains one of the most decorated and esteemed seasons in school history.

Redick had been tied to the Lakers job since the position became available, and he now gets his first chance to hold a clipboard.
