Lakers news: Rob Pelinka says LeBron James got slimmer

Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka has noticed a change in LeBron James going into next season.

LeBron James is entering his 19th season in the league, and he’s still going strong.

The Los Angeles Lakers star is coming off a disappointing season that was marred by injuries and setbacks. Though James posted solid numbers when he played, he clearly could’ve been better.

James missed 27 games because of an ankle sprain that limited his burst to the rim, which was extremely evident in the playoffs.

The offseason provided James the chance to rest and work on his body more to prepare for the 82-game season ahead, and he definitely worked on himself.

Rob Pelinka, general manager of the Lakers, said during a media session Thursday James is noticeably slimmer.

“I think the thing that stands out is just his fitness level,” Pelinka said. “He’s slimmed up. And we all know LeBron studies the greats, and he adds things into his game, and I think going into this stage of his career, he’s made a decision to come back a little bit leaner. And I think that’s gonna translate in his explosiveness and quickness.”

James, who turns 37 in December, is one of the most explosive athletes the league has ever seen. If he can turn back the clock, it’ll definitely be a big season for him and the franchise.

Head coach Frank Vogel also mentioned how Anthony Davis, James’ star teammate, has brought in an imposing body to the facility. If the Lakers can stay healthy and avoid last season’s mishaps, there’s a good chance for them to go deep this year.
