The Los Angeles Lakers pushed their current win-streak to seven games following last night’s victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, 115-105. Friday night was notable not only for the win and for the fact that it was the Lakers first game in the past four that didn’t require overtime, but it was also the return of Anthony Davis to the lineup after a two-game absence.
The Lakers revealed earlier this week that Davis is dealing with Achilles tendinosis, which sounds ominous considering the part of the body it is on. Davis wanted to reassure Lakers fans and inquiring reporters on Friday that the injury is not severe, simply one that will require constant treatment but shouldn’t limit his ability to play.
“It felt great going into the game.” Davis said on Friday, according to SB Nation’s Christian Rivas. “But as you play, you’re always using that Achilles tendon, and it got sore towards the end just because I was constantly moving on it. But it felt great coming into the game, felt great throughout the game, but late game it kind of was bothering me a little bit. I felt like we had the game in hand, and coach felt that way, so I was able to sit down the last two and a half [minutes].”
NBA players are constantly dealing with soreness and nagging injuries throughout a season which require constant treatment. There’s a reason why LeBron’s trainer Mike Mancias says the job of recovery is a 24/7 job. It also shouldn’t be too concerning that Davis is feeling sore after the shortest offseason in NBA history.
