The Los Angeles Lakers are still in the Big Apple but they are switching boroughs this evening as they cross the Brooklyn Bridge to face off against LeBron’s former running mate Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets are having a weird year and no, it’s not just the grey court they decide to play many home games on. It probably should have been expected this season, with Kevin Durant out for the year recovering and the Nets adding the mercurial Irving to what had been a collegiate atmosphere for a few years.
And the Irving experience, including missing over 25 games this, got even a weirder last week when he discussed the growth the Nets have to make to be a championship contender. He named some of his teammates, but not all of them. The world of Kyrie is always interesting and even with the Nets scrapping at the bottom of the East playoff picture, it’s as compelling as always.
Irving, as well as L.A. native Spencer Dinwiddie, are the players to watch for the Nets on the perimeter. Also, the last time these two teams met in Brooklyn, Jarrett Allen got one of the greatest blocks we’ve ever seen against LeBron James.
The Nets aren’t very good, but they aren’t that bad either. On the second night of a back to back in the city that never sleeps, the Lakers can’t afford to get off to a slow start like they did earlier this week in Boston.
