Lakers are adding Greg St. Jean to JJ Redick’s coaching staff

New Lakers head coach JJ Redick now has another assistant on his staff.

The Los Angeles Lakers hired JJ Redick, former NBA sharpshooter and current podcaster, to be their head coach on June 24. After that, it was slow going as far as filling out his coaching staff.

They haven’t been able to hire a few of their targets, including Terry Stotts, the former Portland Trail Blazers head coach who instead joined the Golden State Warriors. A few days ago, Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, both of whom also have extensive head coaching experience, did say yes to Redick and the Lakers.

Redick’s staff isn’t quite complete yet, but this weekend, Greg St. Jean, a former assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, was also reportedly added to that cadre.

St. Jean was a player development coach for the Lakers during the 2019-20 season under Vogel when they won it all.

His father, Garry St. Jean, was the head coach of the Sacramento Kings in the 1990s. The elder St. Jean then became the Warriors’ general manager in 1997 and held that role until 2004.
