The Los Angeles Lakers have found their man for the 2020-21 title defense. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have agreed in principle to a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder that will bring young veteran point guard Dennis Schröder.
As part of the deal, the Lakers will give up Danny Green and the No. 28 pick in Wednesday’s draft, but as the Lakers traded their first-round pick last season in the Anthony Davis trade, the trade cannot be completed until the Lakers make their pick, which we now know will be made on behalf of the Thunder, according to Woj.
The trade moratorium in the NBA will be lifted Monday at Noon EST/9 a.m. Pacific time, but the Lakers trade has to wait until Wednesday to be completed because of the Stepien Rule that prevents trading first-round picks in consecutive drafts. The Lakers, however, can make some other deals around the deal for Schröder starting on Monday afternoon, because they won’t hinge on their first-round draft pick.
