Lady Vols wins series at Kentucky

Tennessee softball wins series at Kentucky.

No. 7 Tennessee (33-5, 12-2 SEC) defeated No. 17 Kentucky (25-12-1, 7-7 SEC), 10-2, Saturday at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.

The win is the Lady Vols’ third consecutive and clinched a fifth consecutive SEC series.

The Lady Vols led, 3-0, in the first inning as Zaida Puni had a two-run single and Mackenzie Donihoo recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Tennessee extended its advantage to 5-0 in the second inning when Kiki Milloy hit a two-run home run.

McKenna Gibson extended the Lady Vols’ lead to 8-0 with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Gibson went 1-for-2, recording two runs and four RBIs. She recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Puni extended the Lady Vols’ lead to 8-1 in the inning with an RBI double.

The Wildcats scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Freshman Karlyn Pickens (8-4) pitched 4.1 innings, She allowed three hits, one run and four walks, while totaling four strikeouts.

Nicola Simpson pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering two walks and recorded one strikeout. Charli Orsini allowed one run, one hit and one walk.
