Kyrie Irving underwent successful shoulder surgery

Kyrie Irving waited to undergo his surgery until Tuesday, the day the Brooklyn Nets are visiting the Boston Celtics.

Although Kyrie Irving was ruled out for the remainder of the 2019-20 season back on February 20 due to his right shoulder impingement, he did not undergo surgery right away. Sean Marks expressed the Brooklyn Nets point guard needed to evaluate some options.

On Tuesday — hours before the Nets played Irving’s old team, the Boston Celtics — the team announced Irving underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. The surgery was deemed a success, and Irving is expected to make a full recovery.

Irving tried to avoid surgery by receiving a cortisone shot on Christmas Eve. But a second cortisone shot was not an option for the superstar point guard.

Irving was only able to play in 20 games for the Nets this season. In his limited time, the Brooklyn point guard averaged 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game while playing 32.9 minutes a night. He also shot 47.8% from the field and 39.4 percent from 3-point territory.
