Kyrie Irving ruled out for Nets’ last game before NBA All-Star break

The Toronto Raptors are in Brooklyn on Wednesday. Once again, they will not see Nets point guard Kyrie Irving.

After Kyrie Irving suffered a medial ligament sprain in his right knee against the Wizards while the Brooklyn Nets were in Washington on February 1, the team said Irving would be re-evaluated in one week.

The week came and went, and there was no announcement regarding on Irving’s status. The closest thing to an update came on Saturday when Kenny Atkinson would not rule out the point guard for Brooklyn’s game against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Nets ruled Irving out for Wednesday’s game due to the right knee sprain — which means the point guard will no play again for Brooklyn until the All-Star break has come and gone.

Brooklyn’s matchup with the Raptors will be the fifth in a row Irving has missed as a result of the sprain. The Nets have gone 3-1 throughout the stretch so far.

Altogether, Irving has played in 20 of Brooklyn’s 52 games this season — Wednesday’s contest being No. 53.
