Kyrie Irving removed from Nets’ status report ahead of game vs. Cavs

For the first time in a while, Kyrie Irving will be available to play for the Brooklyn Nets.

On Tuesday, Kyrie Irving rejoined the Brooklyn Nets for the first time since leading the team to a win over the Utah Jazz on January 5, taking part in practice with Kevin Durant and company.

While addressing the media on a Zoom call after practice, Nets head coach Steve Nash said he expected Irving to make his return on Wednesday for Brooklyn’s trip to Cleveland to face Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince and the rest of the Cavaliers. However, he would not definitively say Irving was available for Wednesday’s game.

“Kai is working really hard mentally to put himself in a great position to perform,” Nash said. “I’m proud of him for the effort he’s making there. Physically, we’ll see. I know he’s been doing some things, but it was a longer layoff. So we got to monitor it and see how able he is to play up and down in the short term and what’s going to get us to the long-term with him in a safe manner.”

After both Nash and Irving both addressed the media, the Nets released their status report for Wednesday. Irving’s name was not on the list for the first time since the win over the Philadelphia 76ers on January 7.
