Kyrie Irving on possibility of playing at home: ‘There’s light at the end of the tunnel’

“The circumstances this year have not been ideal, but I’m glad things are settling down.”

Kyrie Irving’s decision to not receive a COVID-19 vaccination has cost him millions of dollars in lost salary and has likely cost the Nets several wins, but developments are starting to break Irving’s way at a crucial point in the season.

As several major cities across the United States have begun to scale back vaccine restrictions and mandates, New York City mayor Eric Adams said last week he can’t wait to remove the mandate in New York and that there should be news on the city’s plan in the coming weeks.

After scoring a season-high 38 points in an upset win over the Bucks, Irving said he’s glad there’s a “light at the end of the tunnel” in New York.

“I’m very appreciative of all those that are pushing behind the scenes to make our world a better place. With everything calming down with the COVID cases … most important thing for me was just making sure everybody was OK. … The circumstances this year have not been ideal, but I’m glad things are settling down and there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
