Kevin Durant (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) may make his return from his quarantine before Kyrie Irving (personal reasons) suits up for the Brooklyn Nets again.
Steve Nash told reporters on a Zoom call before Friday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies that he had been in contact with Irving, but Brooklyn’s head coach wants “to keep all that stuff private.” Friday’s game in Memphis was the second in as many days that Irving has missed due to personal reasons — and it may not be his last.
“We don’t have any decision on Sunday yet,” Nash said. “But we’ll deal with that and figure it out before we go on Sunday.”
According to the New York Post‘s Brian Lewis, Irving “in essence, took personal days.”
While Nash would not discuss his conversation with Irving further or comment on the Nets’ stance on the guard’s handling of the situation, he did provide an update on Durant.
“Kevin, I believe, is still on track for Sunday,” Brooklyn’s head coach said. “So we just have to just hope his tests continue to be negative and everything stays as is, it appears he’ll be ready to go Sunday night.”
