While Kevin Durant has been active on social media, featured in a music video and seen playing pickup with Spencer Dinwiddie and others, fellow Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving has maintained a relatively low profile since the team entered the Disney bubble for the NBA’s resumption of the 2019-20 season.
Of course, this all comes after Irving received some heavy criticism for the stance he took on the league’s restart.
But Irving taking a step out of the spotlight doesn’t mean he’s not paying attention to what’s going on with his team in Florida. In fact, he recently checked in with Caris LeVert, the wing told reporters on a Zoom call on Saturday, per Marc Berman of the New York Post:
I talked to Ky [on Friday] morning, talked about the games and playoffs coming up and giving me encouragement. He’s watching all the games. He’s been in this position before, fighting for something.
And Nets interim head coach Jacque Vaughn was more than pleased to find out Irving is invested in Brooklyn is doing:
It’s huge Caris got a call from Ky — that’s a great thing this isn’t an individual sport. Just because we don’t have the group with us, doesn’t mean they can’t be part of it. Caris appreciated that.
