Kyrie Irving fined $50K by NBA, forfeits salary from missed time during quarantine

The NBA handed down it’s ruling on Kyrie Irving attending a large gathering without wearing a mask.

The NBA has concluded its investigation into Kyrie Irving attending a large gathering without a mask after video of the event leaked onto the internet. Brooklyn’s point guard has been fined $50,000,000 for “violating the league’s Health and Safety Protocols, which among other things prohibit attending indoor social gatherings of 15 or more people or entering bars, lounges, clubs or similar establishments.”

The league also revealed Irving had to serve out a five-day quarantine. Additionally, the Nets point guard had to forfeit his salary from every game he missed during that five-day span (over $400,000 per game) — so that does not cover the entirety of Irving’s absence, last playing for the Nets on January 5 against the Utah Jazz.

So long as he continues to test negative for COVID-19, Brooklyn’s point guard will be eligible to play in the Nets’ next game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday — which could also be James Harden’s Nets debut.
