Kyler Murray wins HC Jonathan Gannon some money with classroom work

Jonathan Gannon bet that Kyler Murray would be able to answer tough questions and took money from some guys because Murray got them right.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will not be able to do on-field football work for a while. However, he is working hard with the mental side of the new offense under head coach Jonathan Gannon and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

Reports are that he is picking up the new offense well and Gannon has an anecdote to illustrate that fact.

Speaking to reporters on Friday with the start of rookie minicamp, eh explained how Murray helped Gannon win a bet.

“I gave him some hard questions (Thursday) in a team meeting and he was on it,” Gannon explained. “We had some bets if he was going to get it right or wrong, and he got it right and I took some money from some guys.”

Gannon bet on Murray to get the questions right and cashed it in.

Gannon also liked how Murray handled it.

Murray was upset that anyone would bet against him.

“He’s ultra-competitive; he’s got fire in his gut,” Gannon said. “That’s what you want out of your trigger guy.”

So, in summary:

  • Murray was tested by Gannon and passed the test.
  • Gannon believed in Murray and bet on him to get the answers right.
  • Murray is fired up because he had doubters.

This is a great sequence to see from Murray and Gannon at the start of their first year together.
