Kyler Murray selected after Drew Lock in ESPN QB redraft

Lock is the 11th quarterback selected and Murray goes 13th.

The offseason brings lists and mock drafts and redrafts. ESPN’s Field Yates put together a redraft of only quarterbacks for the 32 teams. In this exercise, there was a blend of talent and age considered.

Knowing that, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray should go fairly high, right?

He is the 13th quarterback off the board.

While we’ve seen just one year of Murray to this point, this feels like the possible steal of the draft. Murray is in line for a mammoth second season and is a blue-chip prospect to build Team Archer around. With sensational accuracy and limitless athletic ability, Murray will evolve into one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. This is a great pick.

Of the 12 quarterbacks selected ahead of Murray, 11 make sense. Any reasonable football fan could see why players like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady would be taken before Murray.

No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, Joe Burrow, is among the players selected before Murray and there is even an argument for that.

The one player who doesn’t make sense is Denver’s Drew Lock, who is the 11th quarterback selected.

Lock was a second-round pick and played in five games for the Broncos last season, going 4-1 as a starter. He was solid. However, to take him over the Offensive Rookie of the Year seems odd. Murray had solid play over all 16 games and is primed for a big year in 2020.

The Broncos are counting on Lock to be their franchise quarterback. The Cardinals are counting on Murray. But given what we have seen from both, unless it is the size factor, why would anyone want Lock over Murray?
