Kyler Murray is the Pro Football Focus leader in deep passing performance

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is PFF’s No. 1 ranked deep passing performer from 2021.

The Arizona Cardinals are about to make quarterback Kyler Murray the highest paid player in franchise history.

Arguably his most impressive attribute to this point has been his deep passing ability, which he has been one of the best in the league since his rookie year.

Pro Football Focus agrees, as they had Murray as the number one deep passing performer from last season.

Here’s what they had to say about the team’s star quarerback:

Murray ranked top-10 in completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating and yards on passes thrown 20 or more yards downfield, notably leading starting quarterbacks in PFF grade on those throws.

According to PFF’s ball-location data, the Oklahoma product also threw 48.5% of his deep attempts in the perfect spot for a receiver. He was the only quarterback to breach the 45.0% mark.

Murray had a 99.3 passing grade and an overall passer rating of 117.2 last season. Prior to his ankle injury against the Packers, he was the leading MVP candidate.

This ranking comes despite the Cardinals inability to find a consistent deep threat since Murray joined the team in 2019. They figure to have done just that for this upcoming season with the acquisition of Hollywood Brown.

The sky is the limit now that PFF’s No. 1 ranked deep passer is paired with a true speed threat down the field. It only helps that the two have an established connection from their playing days at Oklahoma.
