Kyler Murray for MVP? One analyst is calling his shot for 2020

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks predicts a second-year QB will win the award for the third straight season.

Arizona Cardinals fans are very excited about what could be a promising year in 2020. That excitement is centered on the expected progress and development of quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, is expected to make a leap in his play, something we have seen from second-year quarterbacks three years in a row.

Murray is even a decent favorite for the 2020 NFL MVP award.

Could he win it?

One prominent analyst thinks so. NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks is calling his shot and is already predicting that Murray will win this season’s award.

I know it’s a bit early to make predictions for the upcoming season, but that’s how confident I am that Kyler Murray will win the league’s highest individual honor this year.

The 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year will become the third straight second-year quarterback to take the award, following in the footsteps of Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.

That bold statement might take some by surprise, but I’m calling my shot early and jumping on the Murray bandwagon before the Arizona Cardinals go on a worst-to-first run that makes the young QB1 the league’s next great quarterback.

We have seen young quarterbacks make meteoric improvements in their second NFL season three years in a row. Carson Wentz, before getting hurt in 2017, was a major MVP candidate. The Eagles went on the win the Super Bowl. Mahomes did it in 2018, winning the award in his second season and Jackson was a unanimous MVP last year in his sophomore season.

Murray is more comfortable in the Cardinals’ offense. He has continuity in his offensive line. He will have a full season with running back Kenyan Drake and the Cardinals added DeAndre Hopkins. The offense was productive over the final few weeks of the season.

If the defense improves as it should with significant upgrades in talent in the front seven and getting both Patrick Peterson and Robert Alford at cornerback for entire season, it could be the perfect storm for the Cardinals to surprise everyone.

Kyler Murray, league MVP? That has a good sound to it.
