Kyler Murray appeared to lose track of downs to set up the Cardinals’ brutal game-losing FG miss

This is why you never slide before the sticks, Kyler Murray!

This is a brutal mistake from Kyler Murray.

The Arizona Cardinals were in the perfect position to hand the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season. The Eagles were uncharacteristically sloppy on Sunday, as the Cardinals out-gained their opponents 363-357 while going 8-for-14 on third downs.

With 36 seconds to play and trailing 20-17, Murray had the Cardinals driving down the field at the Eagles’ 35-yard-line looking to set up a field goal to tie or possibly win with a touchdown. On second-and-10, Murray took a quarterback draw and found daylight through the Eagles defense, sliding down before the first down marker to set up a third and short.

Unfortunately for Murray, the mistakes didn’t end there, as on third down, the Cardinals quarterback spiked the football to stop the clock, meaning Arizona had to attempt a 43-yard-field goal to tie with the wasted down. And yes, you guessed it, the Cardinals missed the field goal, ending the game on a pure heartbreaker.

It definitely feels like Murray lost track of the downs there for the Cardinals, but sliding short of the marker also was a huge no-no in that situation too. A completely rough, and avoidable, ending for Murray and the Cardinals there.
