Kyler Murray anticipates breakout 2021 season from CB Byron Murphy

“He has great instincts. He’s going to create more turnovers in 2021. He’s going to be put in a position that allows him to play fast and free. We have a ton of confidence in him.”

The Arizona Cardinals will need to address the cornerback position this offseason, as almost everyone from the roster from 2020 is a free agent. However, if things go the way they should, one player should take another step forward in his development.

Byron Murphy, entering his third NFL season in 2021, made strides in his second season after an uneven rookie campaign, and his coaches and teammates are expecting more next season.

Quarterback Kyler Murray believes Murphy will have a breakout season in 2021.

In an interview for Cards Wire, when Murray was asked who he believes will break out next season, he named Murphy as the guy.

“I’ll go with Byron Murphy,” Murray said. “He’s a great football player. You can never have too many of those. He’s entering his third season now. He’s obviously a lot more comfortable in our system now. He has great instincts. He’s going to create more turnovers in 2021. He’s going to be put in a position that allows him to play fast and free. We have a ton of confidence in him.”

After having one interception as a rookie, he did not create any turnovers in 2020, although he did have a few key pass breakups in critical moments and he recovered a pair of fumbles.

If he can become a ballhawk in 2021 and create turnovers like it is believed he can do, then the position will be in good hands, no matter what they end up deciding to do this offseason.

And becoming a stud corner in 2021 would make the Cardinals, who had him as the No. 5 player on their board in 2019, look good for taking him No. 33 overall.
