Kyle Van Noy re-signing with the New England Patriots brings an energetic and passionate presence back to the defense.

The 30-year-old is a two-time Super Bowl champion and he poured his heart our every time he hit the field. So, of course he did the same last year while playing under Brian Flores with the Miami Dolphins. Van Noy’s infectious energy helped bring a team from a 5-11 record to a 10-6 record over the duration of one season.

That infectious energy also clashed with Cam Newton’s energy last season in Week 1 after the Patriots’ victory. One Miami player tried to snatch Newton’s chain and Van Noy was in on the trash-talk moment.

While speaking with the media on Wednesday, Van Noy was asked about the situation as the two will share a locker room next season.

“I want to talk to Cam,” Van Noy said. “I feel like me and Cam have a similar mindset and that’s to win. I’m excited to work with him. I’ve heard nothing but good things. I think everybody is going to be excited after hopefully we have dinner, and I’ll pay for it, and just get to know each other better. I think it’s a good rivalry. Everybody knows everybody. People played on both sides. So it’s going to be good.”

Trash talk is a part of the game and Van Noy acknowledges and embraces it.

“It’s part of football. I think everybody blows it out of proportion when there is trash talking in football,” Van Noy continued. “It’s part of the game. It’s part of the game. Some players are better than others. Some have terrible jokes, some have good ones. Some can get under skin, some can’t. It’s part of the game. And I think it’s…yeah, it’s part of the game and I don’t think anyone takes personal. If they do, then that’s their deal.”

It’s hard to believe that Newton and Van Noy won’t quickly come together for the common cause and form a friendship fairly quickly.
