Kyle Long believes Bears will make ‘massive splash’ at QB

Count former Bears RG Kyle Long among those that believes Chicago will target a star quarterback this offseason.

The Chicago Bears have been quite active in the quarterback market this offseason, which is hardly a surprise given the team’s woes at the position last season — and for the better part of the last few decades.

While general manager Ryan Pace insists “everything is on the table,” including Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, reports around the league have indicated that Chicago is persistent in bringing a star quarterback to the franchise.

Count former Bears right guard Kyle Long among those who believe Chicago will target someone outside the organization. In fact, he thinks the Bears will make “a massive splash” at quarterback this offseason.

As for why he believes that, Long elaborated with a series of tweets. Basically, Pace and head coach Matt Nagy can’t afford another mediocre performance at quarterback, which would indicate that they’re interested in trading for a star quarterback, whatever that might take.

The Bears have recently been mentioned as a favorite to trade for Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson. While the Seahawks insist the plan is for Wilson to be their starter in 2021, if the right price comes along, that could certainly change.

Wilson reportedly has Chicago on his list of teams he’d agree to be traded to — the others being New Orleans, Las Vegas and Dallas. There’s been a lot of talk specifically about Wilson and the Bears. Reports have indicated that Wilson likes the Bears’ “emerging offensive line,” the offensive-minded Nagy and the market of Chicago.

While there’s no guarantee the Seahawks will trade Wilson, it’s starting to feel more and more likely that, if they do, he’ll land with the Bears. Especially given Chicago has made it a priority to acquire him.
