[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] was cruising to a good finish at Richmond Raceway before “disaster” struck with two laps to go. Larson spun out after contact with Bubba Wallace, causing NASCAR overtime. Was it really a disaster, though? Not at all, because Larson still finished in third place after maintaining track position and having a good pit stop.
Following the race, the Hendrick Motorsports driver talked about the incident with Wallace and how everything transpired so he could finish in third place behind Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano.
“Well, I was a little bit loose, then I got finished off there,” Larson said. “Thankfully, it all kind of just worked out. I only lost, whatever, a spot to [Bubba Wallace], then to [William Byron] there. I was able to keep it going. Then my pit crew did a really good job to get us off pit road, getting us to our sponsors, restart fourth and gain one more.”

During more post-race interviews, Wallace walked over to Larson and shared a moment talking about the incident. There wasn’t any anger and more laughter than anything. Larson was then asked if he thought Wallace’s move was intentional in helping Hamlin, his team owner at 23XI Racing.
“No, not at all,” Larson said. “No, you heard what [Bubba Wallace] said. If he was being intentional, it was to help his race, to get a caution and help his race out. It didn’t play out that way. It just is what it is. Obviously, I’d be pissed off if we spun and finished in the 20s or whatever, but like he said, I had some good karma and he had the bad karma.”
Larson easily could have finished outside the top-10 or even top-20 spots, but it worked out for him. The driver of the No. 5 car earned a playoff point, led 144 laps, and earned his third top-5 finish of the 2024 NASCAR season. Now, Larson goes to Martinsville Speedway, a place he has been better at since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021.
