Kyle Larson, Scott Dixon, more suffer issues in 2024 Indianapolis 500 qualifying

Kyle Larson, Scott Dixon, and others suffer issues in the first 2024 Indianapolis 500 qualifying session. Check out happened to Larson!

The first qualifying session for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 is underway, and several drivers are having issues. It started with Rinus VeeKay, who wrecked his No. 21 car after a great draw. Then, Kyle Larson bailed out of his final lap as it appeared his No. 17 car suffered a mechanical issue, only to discover nothing was wrong.

In the meantime, Larson’s teammate Pato O’Ward was pulled from the qualifying line, which means he will have to wait until the first round is over to put in a lap time. The hits kept coming for Arrow McLaren as Callum Ilott’s time was disallowed for a non-compliant left rear wheel offset. Needless to say, it has been a rough day for Arrow McLaren.

Finally, Chip Ganassi Racing announced that Scott Dixon will not make their drawn spot for qualifying after an engine change this morning. It has been a drama-filled morning of qualifying, with Team Penske currently holding the top 3 spots. The first qualifying day continues until 5:50 p.m. ET and can be watched on Peacock.
