The Phoenix Suns currently have a 2-0 series lead against the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals, and the team chemistry is on full display.
Led by guards Chris Paul and Devin Booker, the Suns have been moving the ball with tight, crisp passes, and role players Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Cameron Johnson and Cameron Payne have all stepped up to produce in bigger bunches.
The Suns, who ended the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs to reach where they are today.
Los Angeles had aspirations of repeating as champions after winning in the Orlando bubble in 2020, but an injury to Anthony Davis in Game 4 changed the outlook.
Still, the Suns played like a team capable of making a deep playoff run, and Kyle Kuzma noticed it during their matchup, via Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report:
“I saw them as a potential Finals team just off their chemistry,” Kuzma said. “Last year with us, we had unbelievable chemistry and everybody kind of jelled and knew their role and had fun doing it, had fun playing with each other. I noticed playing them, that same type of feel. Everybody was communicating, talking, having fun, smiling with each other. Usually, when you have a team connected like that, you win big.”
If Phoenix maintains its current form, attaining the franchise’s first championship in team history is certainly possible.
While the Lakers’ health had different plans for the team this season, Booker cited the first-round series between the two as a huge reason for Phoenix’s growth and understanding of the playoff atmosphere.
Game 3 is in Milwaukee on Sunday, July 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
