When you go over a list of the best safeties to ever play football it won’t take long before the name Ed Reed comes up.
Reed was a force on the dominating Miami Hurricanes team of 2001 that many consider being one of the best college football teams of all-time. He then parlayed that into a Hall of Fame career with the Baltimore Ravens.
When asked about Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton earlier this week, Alabama quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Mac Jones gave the Irish star incredible praise.
“I’m just looking forward to getting a chance to go against someone like that. It’s almost like an Ed Reed-type person where you have to find him every play. You’ve got to know where he is because he can really, like, ruin a play for you if you’re not finding that player.” – Alabama quarterback Mac Jones on Kyle Hamilton
Hamilton’s ability to do pretty much everything well is why Jones sees Reed.
“You see him everywhere. He’s blitzing, he’s in the back end, hiding pressures then coming or, you know, covering people.”
“So he’s a real lengthy guy. I think he’s like 6’4″. You can see it on the tape. He understands football. You can tell he really studies his part and he knows exactly what to do,” Jones added.
Notre Dame has been susceptible against the deep ball this year so an Ed Reed type performance by Kyle Hamilton on Friday would go a long way as Notre Dame hopes to shock the college football world against Alabama.
