According to the Iredell Free News, retired NASCAR Cup Series champion Kurt Busch was arrested on Tuesday night and faces DWI and reckless driving charges. Busch was pulled over just before midnight after going 63 MPH in a 45-MPH zone. The court records said Busch admitted to drinking and had “red glossy eyes” with “a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.”
Busch registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.17 percent, which is over double the legal limit in North Carolina. The former NASCAR driver was released in the early morning hours on Wednesday and will appear in court on September 19. Later, Busch released a statement apologizing for his actions and said he would cooperate with everything.
In 2022, Busch’s racing career was cut short after suffering a concussion at Pocono Raceway. The former 23XI Racing driver never got back behind the wheel of the No. 45 Cup car and announced his retirement in 2023. Busch has been working with 23XI Racing since his retirement and hasn’t raced in over two years.
