When you think of Kurt Angle, his accomplishments as an Olympic gold medalist and his incredible feats in the WWE come to mind. But now, like many other wrestlers, Angle wants to expand his profile into another entertainment sphere — and he’s aiming high.
On the latest episode of “The Kurt Angle Show,” Angle said he’s “tried many times” to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of Hollywood’s most prolific movie franchises. He even went as far as to contact Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, about a potential role (h/t Fightful for transcription).
“I’ve tried many times. It’s not that easy. I ended up getting [Kevin Feige’s] contact information. I reached out to him and told him that I’d be interested in doing a Marvel movie, and he actually responded to me, but nothing ever came of it. I got it from my nephew-in-law, Jon Bernthal. He actually gave me his contact information. So I talked to him, but unfortunately, nothing has occurred since then.”
Angle has acted in movies before, but mostly in background roles, so an MCU role would be lofty and grander than anything he’s done outside of pro wrestling. But the WWE Hall of Famer can’t be faulted for trying when others have successfully transitioned to comic book cinema.
Dave Bautista, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena all made the jump to superhero roles with Marvel or DC, contributing to million (and sometimes billion) dollar box office grosses. Their profiles expanded beyond the ring to become household names to non-wrestling fans and some of Hollywood’s top action stars.
Maybe Feige follows through and puts Angle in an MCU movie or television series down the road. With numerous projects ahead, he could fit somewhere, but for now, it doesn’t seem in the cards anytime soon.
