Kliff Kingsbury uncertain about who will be kick, punt returners but names 2 candidates

He mentioned Chase Edmonds and Johnnie Dixon as possibilities.

The Arizona Cardinals are in the beginning stage of training camp and head coach Kliff Kingsbury isn’t really focusing on position battles yet, as pads won’t go on for more than another week. He is, though, interested in seeing how the competition shakes out in the return game.

He was asked about who might be the returners this year in a press conference earlier in the week.

“We have to see how the young backs look bringing it back,” he said. “We have some guys — Johnnie Dixon’s a guy, Chase Edmonds is a guy — some different guys we feel like can be options back there.”

Dixon is a receiver who spent last season on the team’s practice squad. He did not return kicks in college when he attended Ohio State.

Edmonds got a little action returning kicks as a rookie, averaging 16 yards on three returns in 2018.

Other guys who could be in the mix are receiver Andy Isabella and rookie running back Eno Benjamin, while receiver Christian Kirk could have opportunities as a punt returner.

Kingsbury, though, doesn’t know who is the favorite right now.

“Until we get back there, we won’t really know,” he said.

With no preseason games to give players live reps, the job might change even early in the season, depending on who they have on the roster.
