Kliff Kingsbury says little about rookie LB Zaven Collins’ arrest

The Cardinals head coach said all he did was sit down and talk to his rookie LB, who understands that what happened was wrong.

Arizona Cardinals first-round pick Zaven Collins made the news during the offseason with an arrest for reckless driving last month in Scottsdale. Since then, there has been no statement from the team and really no other details other than those that were on the police report.

On the first day of training camp, head coach Kliff Kingsbury was asked about the arrest and he didn’t have much to say.

How did the Cardinals handle it?

“Just talked through it,” he told reporters after the team completed the conditioning test. “Obviously, he knows he made a mistake.”

It was a mistake. However, of the mistakes a player can make, speeding in an area known for speeding isn’t that serious.

The team, which has responded to more serious legal issues with a statement, such as general manager Steve Keim’s DUI a few summers ago, clearly does not view this as a major infraction.

It is similar to the arrest of receiver Christian Kirk before the draft. It didn’t deter them from selecting him in the second round.

As long as nothing like the happens again, it sounds like it is of little concern.
