Arkansas quarterback [autotag]KJ Jefferson[/autotag] was one of 14 SEC players named to the Maxwell Award Preseason watch list. The award is presented to the best player in all of college football each year.
This is the second consecutive year that Jefferson has been named to the prestigious award’s watch list. Jefferson recently became the first quarterback to receive preseason All-SEC accolades since Tyler Wilson in 2012.
The Sardis, Miss. native is set to break a lot of program records in 2023, which will be his third season running the Razorback offense. Currently, Jefferson sits in the top 10 in program history for completions (7th), yards (7th), touchdown passes (6th), total plays (6th), total yards (5th), touchdowns responsible for (4th) and 300-yard passing games (3rd).
Jefferson was one of just six SEC quarterbacks SEC named to the preseason Maxwell Award watch list. Devin Leary (Kentucky), Jayden Daniels (LSU), Will Rogers (Mississippi State), Spencer Rattler (South Carolina) and Joe Milton (Tennessee).
Rocket Sanders joined Jefferson as the only other Razorback on the watch list and you can read more about that here.
