The Iowa Hawkeyes were without one of their top players on Saturday night in East Lansing.
Graduate CASH Sebastian Castro was listed as questionable in Iowa’s availability report, but the 5-foot-11, 205 pound defensive back didn’t suit up or play at Michigan State.
On a night where tackling woes reared their ugly head in an eventual 32-20 loss, Castro’s presence was dearly missed.
In his postgame remarks following the defeat, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz updated Castro’s injury status.
“Yeah, I’ll start with the status. I expect him to play next week. At least I think he will. He just tweaked his ankle basically. I thought he might have a chance today, but he couldn’t go yesterday. Hopeful with a little extra time today that maybe he’d be alright, but he’s not. I don’t think it’s anything longterm,” Ferentz said.
Redshirt sophomore defensive back Koen Entringer made his first career start in Castro’s place and wound up registering his first career interception. But, Entringer exited the contest with an injury.
Ferentz indicated that he didn’t think Entringer’s injury would be serious.
“Yeah, I think he’s going to be okay. He’s got a hand issue, but I don’t think it’s going to be career-ending by any stretch,” Ferentz said.
Castro has 28 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one interception on the season. In his Hawkeye career, Castro has registered 134 tackles, 18 passes defensed, 12 tackles for loss, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, two sacks and one defensive touchdown.
Entringer has appeared in seven games this season and has tallied 16 tackles and one interception. The Walled Lake Western product has played in 25 games in his Hawkeye career.
