The Ohio State Buckeyes are among the nation’s elite in offensive firepower this year. With a bevy of weapons that are all explosive, the Iowa Hawkeyes and their defense will have their work cut out for them.
It is a classic case where Iowa will be better off trying to slow the Buckeyes down as opposed to completely stopping them. Very few ever have accomplished the latter task.
With Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith at wide receiver and Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson at running back, the Buckeyes can take it to the house on any given play.
During his weekly press conference, head coach Kirk Ferentz was asked about what it would take to handle an offense with the weapons that Ohio State has.
“Needless to say they’re balanced and they have good talent at all positions. It’s not like you can load up in any one area, you just have to play great team defense. It’s probably the only way you have a chance to slow them down.”
“They’ve had a lot of big plays this year, and they havereally good players. You just named four of them that aretalented. They’re really good up front, as well. Very veteran up there.”
“That’s their whole team. They’ve recruited well historically, and now they’ve done a good job with the portal, as well. A couple key additions on the offensive side, running back and center to name two, and then obviously the quarterback on top of it, so right up the middle three really good players. So there really is no weakness there, and it’s just a matter of trying to compete with them each and every down,” Ferentz said of the Buckeyes’ offense.
Ohio State is averaging 48.8 points per game through four games. They are throwing for 307.8 yards per game and getting 227 yards per game on the ground.
The Buckeyes are putting up 534.8 offensive yards per game and spread around the love as they have three players over 100 yards rushing and three players over 200 yards receiving.
