Kirk Cousins sets Falcons passing record in front of Matt Ryan

Kirk Cousins set a new Falcons record for passing yards in a game during Thursday night’s overtime win…

The Falcons have seen Matt Ryan light up the Georgia Dome and Mercedes-Benz Stadium throughout his long NFL career. Time after time, Ryan through for 400 yards or more in wins and losses. However, those totals have now been bested by Kirk Cousins on a night meant to honor Matt Ryan.

In the Falcons’ 36-30 win over the Buccaneers, Cousins went 42 for 58 and 509 yards with 4 touchdowns to one interception. His 509-yard total is enough to place him atop the Falcons record book as no quarterback has ever reached that milestone. Additionally, it was Cousins’ career high as well.

Darnell Mooney and Drake London were Cousins go-to players on the night, combining for 21 catches for 259 receiving yards and three touchdowns.  Kyle Pitts caught seven receptions for 88 yards.

Thus far in 2024, Cousins has passed for 1,373 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He was slow to start the year but he looks more comfortable with each passing week.

The Falcons have now moved into first place in the division after wins over the Saints and Buccaneers in back-to-back weeks. Next up, the Falcons take on the Carolina Panthers with a few extra days to prepare.
