Kirk Cousins on Stefon Diggs wanting a trade: ‘It wasn’t a mystery’

Quarterback Kirk Cousins addressed the trade in a virtual call with media members on Tuesday.

The Vikings were one of the busiest teams this offseason.

The biggest move was trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Bills for a handful of draft picks, including this year’s first-round pick.

Diggs was the top receiver for the Vikings in 2019, catching 63 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins addressed the trade in a virtual call with media members on Tuesday.

“It’s a unique dynamic,” Cousins said via the Pioneer Press. “It became apparent that he wanted to play elsewhere, and I think it was smart of the Vikings to grant him that opportunity. I think it wasn’t a mystery, and that’s OK, and I wish him really well. I just so enjoyed playing with him. He’s a special player, and we now have to find a way to move forward and replace that.”

Cousins nails it. It wasn’t a secret and while you can’t ignore Diggs’ skillset, the distraction would have been extremely heavy on the Vikings in 2020. You can only handle so many cryptic social media posts.

While the Vikings are probably better off in the locker room without Diggs, the challenge now will be for GM Rick Spielman to give Cousins some weapons outside of Adam Thielen.
