Kirby Smart names player that’s made a ‘big jump’ in fall camp

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart likes the progress of one of Georgia’s top transfer receivers

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart likes how Vanderbilt transfer wide receiver London Humphreys continues to improve.

“London (Humphreys) had a big jump from scrimmage one to scrimmage two,” said Smart.

Humphreys finished the 2023 college football season with 22 receptions for 439 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He is poised to step into a large role for Georgia this season. Following Georgia’s dismissal of receiver Rara Thomas, Humphreys could see more early playing time.

It is always an adjustment for transfers that are changing systems. Humphreys and two other transfer receivers (Miami’s Colbie Young and USC’s Michael Jackson) both spent spring practice with Georgia and could be relied on early and often this season. Georgia is replacing four of its five leading receivers from last year.

However, Kirby Smart did note that Colbie Young is dealing with a hamstring injury. “Colby’s been dealing with a hamstring some, so he hasn’t been 100 percent,” said Smart. Young figures to be one of Georgia’s top red zone threats this fall.

Overall, Smart is happy with how Georgia’s trio of transfer receivers is looking in fall camp. “Michael Jackson is a guy that’s been really reliable for us, a hard worker, competitor, continues to improve and get better. I’m pleased with all three of those guys,” said Smart.

We project Michael Jackson to be one of Georgia’s most utilized receivers in the screen game and think he is one of Georgia’s best receivers after the catch.

London Humphreys has the most versatile route tree of Georgia’s three transfers. Humphreys is a deep threat that exploited Georgia for a long touchdown last season.
