Kirby Smart gives injury update on Georgia QB Carson Beck

UGA football head coach Kirby Smart provides injury update on Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Carson Beck

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart provided a positive injury update on UGA quarterback Carson Beck. Beck is practicing throughout Georgia’s bye week as the Bulldogs prepare to play at Alabama on Sept. 28.

“I don’t know where all that’s coming from, we got like seven AC joint sprains, so that’s not a significant or major injury,” said Smart. “Carson (Beck)’s fine, he’s practiced both days.”

Beck suffered an AC joint sprain in Georgia’s 13-12 win at Kentucky. Georgia will need Beck to play better against Alabama to give the Bulldogs a chance to win.

The senior quarterback has completed 56 of 82 passes this season and has thrown seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Beck has passed for 680 yards through three games.

“Carson (Beck) does a great job of understanding that and knowing what to do and getting hats on people and, you know, that’s why the run game is so critical,” said Kirby Smart. “The best friend you have on the road in those environments is in the run game, and when you don’t run the ball well, you better be dang good at something.”

Beck and Georgia will face another difficult road environment at Alabama. The Bulldogs will look to get more production out of their rushing attack as well. Georgia managed just 102 rushing yards on 30 carries at Kentucky. The Bulldogs got a strong performance from running back Trevor Etienne against Kentucky (19 carries for 79 yards), but UGA averaged just 3.4 yards per carry.

The Georgia offense has failed to score touchdowns in three of four halves against Power Four competition. Georgia must be better against Alabama. The Dawgs’ bye week came at a good time.
