In less than two weeks, Florida has to make the trek to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a road game at one of the toughest stadiums to play at in the entire nation. After the crowd at Kroger Field, which seats just 61,000, had a big impact on UF’s success, it’s a bit scary to imagine what effect more than 100,000 fans at Tiger Stadium would have.
Luckily, LSU may not be able to reach a maximum crowd, as the kickoff for that game has been scheduled for noon EDT. The Gators avoid a night crowd at Death Valley for the first time since 2016, when Florida won a noon makeup game due to a 98-yard touchdown pass from Austin Appleby to Tyrie Cleveland, which sealed an SEC East title.
The last time these two teams faced off in Baton Rouge, it was a big-time matchup between undefeated squads. Both teams played well, but LSU went on to win with eventual Heisman-winner Joe Burrow lighting it up. That season culminated in an undefeated national title run for the Tigers.
This year’s LSU team has struggled a bit more. It’s 3-2 after losing at UCLA and at home against Auburn on Saturday, and now it heads to Lexington to take on the same Kentucky team that just beat Florida.
Both the Gators and Tigers are not playing very well right now, and the loser of this game will likely see a bit of a snowball effect after. Florida will try to get the win and avoid a third loss before the Georgia game.
