With numerous players leaving the UNC basketball program and heading into the transfer portal, the Tar Heels are making progress in adding to their roster.
The UNC staff had an in-home visit on Tuesday with one of the top players in the portal. Towson wing [autotag]Nick Timberlake[/autotag] has heard from Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, LSU, Xavier and others, so the Tar Heels are moving quickly.
Timberlake is a 6-foot-4 wing who is a career 37.9% 3-point shooter on 1.9 made 3s per game. Last season he shot 41.6% on 2.8 made 3s a game and averaged 17.7 points per game. As a junior he shot 40.6% on 2.3 made 3s a game and averaged 14.4 points per game.
His shooting ability was the topic of conversation between the North Carolina staff and Timberlake.
They went into more talks about how they need shooting,” Timberlake told InsideCarolina. “They just said they really struggled with it this year and want to get better.
“It was really the same thing they were preaching over the phone. They think I can come in and help the program, which is definitely an exciting thing to hear from a such a high-level program like theirs. They see me in a guard role, working within the offense and hopefully knocking down some shots from the outside if I do decide to come.”
North Carolina shot 31.2% as a team from 3 this past season, which ranked 329th in the country. RJ Davis was the lone player who shot better than 33%.
Timberlake has one year of eligibility remaining.
